As the space functions without me is a programme of ancient and newly commissioned choral works collaboratively curated by composer Ed Cooper and Leodis Consort.

To open, the chamber choir presents works by John Tavener, Knut Nystedt, and Henry Purcell.

Hypnotic and ethereal, singers will be spatialised around Left Bank, allowing these ageless harmonies to conjure halos of resonance, offering an experience that feels as much immersive ceremony as concert.

Following this attunement, the second half of the programme presents a new piece by Ed Cooper for voices and electronics, As the space functions without me, the namesake of the event. Conceived as a performance-installation, the work spatialises singers and loudspeakers, allowing audience members to move and listen freely as if at a dreamlike, sonic sculpture park. 

Plaintive and hushed melodies fall in and out of synchronicity amongst the singers against the backdrop of manipulated, uncanny recordings of domesticity that drift across speakers. Listeners are invited to feel that they are, at once, immersed in and eavesdropping on half-forgotten lamentations.
